Applications
CORROSION MAPPING is a technique with wide applications in many industries. People responsible for the safe working of any component that could be compromised by internal or external corrosion, erosion or internal stress or heat related defects should consider this as a viable method for detection, measurement and severity assessment. Using this technique WELDCOR can give an accurate assessment of the severity and spread of corrosion like defects to the client so they can make informed decision about integrity. Some Typical Applications:
- Detect and Locate Stress Corrosion Cracking in Pressure Vessels
- Detect and Locate Hydrogen Cracking in Pipework and Vessels
- Detect and Locate Corrosion in Pipework
Welds play a crucial role in the manufacturing and in-service integrity of infrastructure and components. With the realisation of the fact that weld is the weakest link and majority of failures of components are related to welding and weldment performance, more and more emphasis is being given for fabricating welded components with high quality and ensuring their performance reliability in service.
At the manufacturing stage, companies need to know that the weldments they are producing are first of all; free from both parent material impurities and defects caused by the welding process and subsequently, meet the requirements of dimensions and structure, according to relevant specifications.
Companies that have in service considerations for components and infrastructure want to know if the integrity of welds can be compromised by fatigue defects resulting from normal or extreme operating conditions.
To ensure defect absence after their manufacture or to detect them in service, a variety of NDT methods can be used. Of these, Ultrasonic testing is the most widely applicable, being capable of detecting and sizing defects in a wide variety of locations and orientations. Ultrasonics gives inspectors the ability to detect and categorise defects inside components without adversely affecting the integrity of the material.
Therefore, NDT has to be at the core of any modern meaningful inspection procedure; the ability to detect, locate and size defects in structures, plant, machinery and infrastructure has made NDT an indispensable sector of industry.
